Integrated Protection Maintenance Services (IPL,) as part of Amthal Group Companies has completed the installation of a smart access control system at Chivenor House, a multi-occupancy residential building in Birmingham, bringing much-needed modernisation to a site previously reliant on outdated entry technology.
Working with Intratone, IPL was tasked with delivering a robust and user-friendly solution to improve building security, communication and operational oversight in a live residential setting.
IPL worked through initial site assessments and managed the full strip-out of obsolete door entry units whilst carrying out preparatory works to accommodate new cabling and hardware across three key entry points.
Says James Summerland at Intratone: “The installation process was carefully phased to minimise disruption, with IPL engineers working closely with site contacts to ensure residents-maintained access throughout. In just two weeks the site has been upgraded to maximum benefit with all residents issued with new access fobs and guided through the system features, including how to answer entry calls via their smartphones.”
At the heart of the upgrade was the installation of three Intratone DD-02 units, an IP-based door entry system that allows for remote management, digital messaging and mobile phone connectivity.
The DD-02 was selected primarily for its cloud-based management portal, which enables the property manager to assign and revoke access credentials in real time without the need for on-site visits. The use of non-cloneable fobs for improved security and an integrated digital noticeboard is designed to broadcast messages directly to residents.
James added: “The added advantage of the DD-02 units is for building managers to simply day-to-day operations. The ability to manage entry permissions remotely is reducing administrative friction, and the elimination of physical noticeboards may eventually streamline communications.

From initial design and specification to a fully commissioned system, the team ensured every stage was aligned with the needs of both residents and management.
